Welcome to The Extras! A daily dose of all the smaller movie related news, clips and just plain cool stuff that you might have missed!

Yes, yes, May the Fourth was over the weekend already, but I’m still feeling pretty Star Wars-y. And apparently the Internet feels the same way, which is why we kick off today’s Extras with a trio of Star Wars stories. First up, the uber talented folks over at Stunt People have created these amazing Darth Vader POV lightsaber battles, just for your enjoyment! VHHHHMMMM VHHHHMMMMMM indeed!

And if you’re wondering when you need to officially start turning off the internet for fear of Star Wars: Episode VII spoilers, early 2014 would be a good time as that is when the much anticipated film is scheduled to start shooting according to  producer Bryan Burk.

“We’re progressing on a schedule to hopefully begin next year, or the beginning of next year, and the location is still kind of floating around in the air all depending on script and a whole bunch of other issues. As I just said, everything is kind of a free-flowing thing, and when we feel like the story level on this script and everything is really coming together and schedules are all working and pieces line up, we prowl ahead, and Star Wars will be no different.”

Okay, so this isn’t really Star Wars story, but HOLY STAR WARS PREQUELS REUNION, BATMAN! Deadline is reporting that Ewan McGregor has joined Natalie Portman’s much troubled western Jane Got a Gun. McGregor is of course replacing Bradley Cooper as the film’s villain, while Cooper replaced Jude Law who replaced Noel Edg- You know what? I can’t do this anymore. Ewan McGregor is going to shoot guns at Natalie Portman. The end.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim consists of nothing but giant robots and Idris Elba speeches, but there are actually other humans involved. And to prove it, here’s a new still of star Charlie Hunman as Raleigh Becket, co-pilot of the jaeger (aka big effing robot) codenamed Gipsy Danger.

Katherine Heigl is going to be starring in new movie called Survivor, and apparently it’s not actually going to be about how her career has managed to survive a non-stop barrage of box office bombs. Instead it’s going to be an action thriller co-starring Clive Owen and helmed by V for Vendetta and The Raven director Jamed McTeigue. The film will see Heigl as an US State Dept employee in London who is the sole survivor of a bomb blast that kills all her colleagues. She ends up having to go on the run to clear her name after being accused of the bombing as well as to stop another attack on New Year’s Eve. Heigl is not exactly the most obvious choice for a film like this, so let’s hope Steven Segal taught her some handy action tricks, other than how to become a fat douche, from that time she played his daughter in Under Siege 2.

And because everybody needs a little sleazy television in their life, here’s the new trailer for season six of HBO’s True Blood. And yes ladies/Darryn, both Alexander Skarsgard and Joe Mangienello are topless. Squee!

Looks like British Underworld star Sophia Myles is swapping the bloodsuckers for movies that may suck. She’s been cast in one of the major supporting roles in Michael Bay’s Transformers 4At this point the film’s script is being kept tight under wraps, but apparently Myles will be playing some kind of scientist.

Get ready to get yo’ goosebumps on. If you checked out the latest TV spot for Man of Steel, you may have noticed some really epic music in the background. Well Warner Bros have released that full track, titled ‘An Ideal Hope’ on Soundcloud, minus the dialogue and Superman screams, for your listening pleasure.

Oh, Hans Zimmer. Will you ever cease being awesome?

There’s a new poster out for Grown Ups 2, sorta-kinda-maybe-when-I’m-high funnyman Adam Sandler’s very first sequel in his career. And this poster is taking it back, way back into time for it’s stars of Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and James Spade.

Benicio Del Toro has a talent for playing criminal scumbags, but it looks like he’ll be on the other side of the courtroom for once. The Wrap is reporting that Del Toro is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix for director Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. Del Toro will play an attorney who’s always trying to help Phoenix’s pot-smoking private detective out of trouble as he investigates the case of a kidnapped girl.

It was with a sad heart that we had to see one of our favourite films of last year, Judge Dredd, fail at the box office, thus killing off any chance of an official sequel (well kinda). But dry your eyes before you get sentenced to death for being a sissy, because we’re lucky enough to live in an era where the tools are readily available for common folks to make their own killer movies. Just ask Paris Hilton. Or better yet, check out this kickass Judge Dredd fan film, titled Judge Minty.

The film has been screening at various film festivals for a while now, but now it’s finally online and the sentence is AWESOME!
