We really are having a treat with all the Marvel news this week, with set pics from Captain America 2 appearing online, as well as the explosive Thor 2 trailer. Guardians of the Galaxy has decided to join the party, revealing more casting news – and this time its a villian!

Lee-Pace-Guardians-of-the-Galaxy

For those of you who have been living behind a comic book-shaped rock for the last few months (or is it years?), Guardians of the Galaxy forms part of the Marvel Phase 2 project, and is set to take the Marvel franchise deep into outer space, which will be perfect for the inevitable Thanos tie-in…which has just found the missing piece of the puzzle, with Lee Pace being cast as a villian.

How could that be the missing piece of the puzzle, you ask? Well, while it hasn’t been confirmed, as per Comingsoon it seems likely that Pace has been cast as none other than Taneleer Tivan, The Collector, which is sure to get those geek-pants to sit a bit more tightly today. In the comic book storyline, The Collector discovers Thanos’ threat to the universe and starts building himself a zoo, or museum, of creatures and planets that he deems fit to save. There we have it – our Thanos tie-in!

For those of you not quite familiar with Lee Pace, he can be seen as Thranduil the Elven King in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy. He joins an already interstellar (see what I did there?) cast which includes  Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker and Ophelia Lovibond. Damn, that sounds great. Who doesn’t want to see Merle in space? Though, he is most likely starring as Rocket Raccoon so it might be just that sarcastic Merle-voice that we’ve come to love and hate so much that will be making an appearance. I don’t know about you guys, but I think James Gunn has something really fantastic in store for us next year August.
