Happy Star Wars Day everybody! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, well, this article isn’t going to be for you! Go check out May the 4th if you need to. If you do know what I’m talking about, then you probably fall into one of two camps. Either you think it’s an irritating excuse for people to keep repeating a stupid play on words, or it’s The. Best. Day. Ever! And if you’re in the latter of those groups, then welcome to my little celebration of Star Wars Day!
So let’s talk Star Wars. More specifically, which is your favourite of the Star Wars movies? For me, it’s The Force Awakens. Now, before you rage at me in the comments for not choosing one of the original trilogy, hear me out. The original trilogy was literally before my time, with Return of the Jedi being released years before I was born. I’ve watched them of course, but the first time I saw them I think I was still in the single digit ages, and they had very little impact on me until I was much older. The prequel trilogy was also before my time, but my time as a geek. They came out long before I had discovered my interest in sci-fi and fantasy. I watched them too, but only when I was much older still.
But, this time around, I was old enough to buy into the hype. The Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie that I got the full effect of, the first I saw in the cinema. It was my first taste of a proper Star Wars experience, from the smallest beginnings with the original teaser trailer back in 2014, right up until booking an IMAX ticket a month before it came out. So this one will always hold a special place in my heart. Besides for that, the movie is good. Like, really good. I love the characters, from the new heroes (especially Poe Dameron, swoon) to the returning icons (especially Han Solo, swoon), the established world that was expanded on so effortlessly and just the way it not only matched my expectations but exceeded them so thoroughly I still think about it. And I can’t wait for the next ones!
So in celebration of all things Star Wars today, let me know, which movie has been your favourite so far?
