Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is the upcoming classic English literature meets zombie slaying mash-up I never knew I wanted until seeing these photos. It’s based on the 2009 Seth Grahame-Smith parody novel of the same name which combines the classic Jane Austin novel with modern zombie fiction leading to a rather unique take on the original as we can see from the photos below(courtesy of Entertainment Weekly):
Director Burr Steers (Igby Goes Down) spoke briefly about how he approached the movie which, given it’s subject matter, could very easily slip into the farcical:
The idea was that it was Pride and Prejudice set in this alternate world and then for everyone to play it straight The movie’s big wink is that there is no big wink.
Lily James (Cinderella), who portrays Elizabeth Bennett, added, “it’s definitely not camp,” and of the sisters, “rather than knitting and crocheting, they’re polishing muskets.”
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is due for release in the US on 5 February 2016 and stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Lena Headey, Matt Smith and Charles Dance among many, many others – and that’s a pretty strong cast. It sounds ridiculous, but quite possibly the right kind of ridiculous. What do you think?
