Well hows that for a spoiler. John dies at the end, is one of those weird films, based on a book written Cracked.com scribe David Wong. It’s all drugs, death, monsters and mental crises, wrapped up in one weird tale about saving the world.
And soy sauce. Don’t forget the soy sauce.
In “John Dies at the End,” it’s all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. Users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John (Rob Mayes) and David (Chase Williamson), a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can’t.
Adapted and directed by Don Coscarelli, the film has been doing the independent rounds this year, going through the Sundance, AFI and South by Southwest film festivals.
It’s finally ready to be unleashed on the unaware public, and will debut next year January. Expect a DVD release shortly afterwards, for our slice of the hemisphere. Or if you’re tech-savvy, you can grab the film from iTunes on December 27th instead.
