We're throwing a party for some aliens in this poster and trailer for GRABBERS

I have no idea what, but they’re clearly throwing something in the water over on the British Isles – well, besides tea leaves – to give them their rather unique sense of humour. For example, in a general speaking sort of manner, when you have some kind of nasty alien that looks a Smurf humped an angry squid, trying to eat your face, it doesn’t normally constitute comedy material. Yet, as you can see in this new trailer for British monster movie Grabbers, having your faced digested by ET’s cousin apparently makes for a rather fun night down at the pub!

Grabbers garnered tons of praise while it was doing the Festival circuit rounds earlier in the year, and it’s not hard to see why. It just looks like an incredibly fun monster romp, which is apparently just what you get based on the reviews over on RottenTomatoes, where it’s currently sitting on a 79% approval rating.

This probably won’t be the easiest film to get hold of locally, but I think I will make a special effort for it. As soon as I down this pint.

On Erin Island, an idyllic fishing village off the coast of Ireland, charming but somewhat work-shy Ciaran O’Shea, is tasked with greeting Lisa Nolan, a straight-laced young officer who has arrived from the mainland. Not that there is much for them to do, aside from dealing with the occasional drunk, and that’s usually O’Shea himself. But strange doings are afoot: the crew of a fishing boat disappears, whales start appearing dead on the shore, a local lobsterman catches a strange tentacled creature in his trap. Soon it becomes clear to O’Shea and Nolan that there’s something big out there, and that it’s hungry. It’s time to rally the villagers, arm the troops…and head to the pub.
