Valve Wanted DOTA 2 on tablets

1 min read

Valve’s DOTA 2 is in beta at the moment, but will one day be free on PC and Mac. Valve was looking at adding tablets like the iPad to the list of platforms for the ridiculously addictive and popular MOBA strategy title – but that just won’t be happening. At least not yet.

The reason? Tablets just aren’t powerful enough right now. The good news though, is that they soon will be.

"We were working on getting Dota 2 running on some tablets," Gabe “Gary” Newell told Kotaku. "That ended up being kind of a disappointment. But the good news is that tablets are getting faster very quickly, so I think we’ll get the kind of performance we want and other game developers want in the near future."

I’ve never played DOTA 2. If people like Garth and Matthew love it, then it’s probably awful. Or addictive as hell, and I’m not willing to go down the digital meth route.

I can’t really say if it would be suited to tablets…but those of you who do – would you play the game on a touch-screen tablet given the chance?

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
