Activision had their chance with the Beatles.

By Gareth

Music companies Apple Corps, Sony/ATV, and EMI — the Beatles music catalog owners — may have chosen MTV over Activision to publish its recently announced Beatles game due to the latter’s inflexibility on song royalties. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has argued in the past that record labels who are asking for increased song royalties from rhythm titles, like Activision’s …

THQ sues Activision Blizzard Over Baja Box Art

By Nick De Bruyne

THQ has filed a suit against Activision Blizzard because of similarities in the box art between the two games, of which THQ's has already been released for some time now. Both games are based around the same real world event, so you would think that a similar cover was like. One look at the comparison image though and you start to realise that it couldn't possibly have been coincidence that the artwork could be so similar, or could it? It seems to me like the cover art is nearly identical in terms of content and placement. THQ's suit says that Activision's "upcoming SCORE International Baja 1000 uses box art with artwork elements that are "virtually identical" to the former's packaging for Baja Edge of Control." Gamasutra reports that THQ have asked the courts to enjoin the game, saying the following: "If Activision is not enjoined from its impending release of the Activision Game bearing the [similar packaging art], THQ will suffer damages in an amount as yet unknown, but in excess of the jurisdictional minimum of this court and to be determined at trial," "THQ also would be entitled to Activision's profits from the sale of the Activision Game..." I fully agree. Activision Blizzard had already been contacted by THQ but then refused to change the artwork. If things go THQ's way, they could be looking to have a large sum of money paid to them in damages as well as as possibly taking certain profits from the sale of Activision Blizzards game.

Call of Duty: World at War – Cooperative Gameplay

By Nick De Bruyne

Early reports of Call of Duty 5 are saying that while the game still looks great and plays similarly to COD4, it just isn't quite as good. To be honest, I really couldn't care less. The reason is simply because this game also has 4 player cooperative play. It was easily the biggest element missing from COD4. In this day and age of online play, sitting in a massive battle all by yourself just doesn't cut it anymore. From the video it is obvious to see that COD5 is still looking really good and if the co-operative works without any online issues, I can't see any reason to not play through this game a couple of times at least, with a couple of buddies by my side.

"Fiddy" Sequel picked up by THQ

By Nick De Bruyne

50cent.jpg I can only assume that there was a veritable amount of fist pounding and 'Yeee biaaatches" coming out of the G-Unit Headquarters this weekend. The Reason? We have received news that the previously cancelled "sequel" to BulletProof has now been picked up by THQ. This new "Fiddy" title was dropped by Activision along with Ghost Busters and Brutal Legend shortly after their merge with Vivendi. We can only hope that all the other titles get picked up by publishers as well because no one likes to see a title disappear into the abyss (actually, I can think of a few). The strange thing is that I had actually heard a while back that the early impressions of the game were actually looking fairly promising albeit in a "Gears of War in the Middle East with lots and lots of Bling" sort of way.

So those of you paying close attention to the Xbox-360 forums yesterday may have noticed the bad news in regards to Guitar Hero: World Tour. The price has increased substantially to a new RRP of R3,299 That’s more than a Xbox 360 premium which kind of puts it into perspective. There are apparently 3 different reasons contributing to this and …

As most of you know, Activision have already announced that they are looking to triple the amount of Guitar Hero titles by 2010. It seems that to reach this goal, Activision is going to be releasing themed games instead of the usual titles with various songs and artists. Last Updated: September 18, 2008
