You could say that every game is an action game technically, but for this category? We’re talking about the games that had a very specific kind of action. The games that swung swords, gave the richest of explosions and landed the most devastating haymakers possible were what we were after this year, and 2018 didn’t disappoint.

Battlefield V has more release dates than a game should have. It was first available to those who subscribed to EA’s Origin Access Premier. Today, it becomes available to those who pre-ordered the shooter’s deluxe edition. Next week, it’ll become available to the general public, the unwashed, plebeian masses unwilling to pay extra for their games. Expect more games to do this.

When I do finally return to ancient Greece, it seems that there’ll be quite a bit waiting for me. Ubisoft has detailed the changes coming to the game this month. There are some big changes coming, including a level cap that’ll be increasing by at least 20 levels.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an already sprawling, enormous game, with dozens and dozens of hours of mostly worthwhile, meaningful content for your misthios to hack, slash and stab through. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t do with a little more though. Of course, there’s a lot more content coming as part of the game’s season pass, but in the meantime, Ubisoft has added a whole new quest. For free.

Though it’s mostly a sprawling single player RPG epic, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is also a live service game. Or at least, it’s meant to be. From soon after launch, Ubisoft was meant to include epic mercenaries for players to hunt and kill, with fantastic loot as a reward.

There’s cosplay, and then there’s cosplay. While anyone and everyone can and should cosplay when the fancy strikes them, there’s something to be said for those fans who manage to take the craft to a whole new level.
