Seven years have passed since CD Projekt Red began work on the ambitious RPG first-person shooter based on the classic pen and paper game, and it looks like there’s still plenty more to do.

CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 is arguably one of the most anticipated games for the next year or so. Leveraging its success, and the unfathomable goodwill it built with The Witcher 3, CDPR is taking its brand of roleplaying to a dystopian future. Now, a bit of a staffing change has some wondering about Cyberpunk 2077’s own future.

Say what you like about Red Dead Redemption 2 and the odd glitch, but that game felt amazingly polished when it came out in October, with zero large-scale patches having been introduced for the game…yet. A sequel that truly feels like the result of hundreds of people being overworked, Red Dead Redemption 2 a terrific example of quality meeting expectations. A quality that exists as an educational benchmark for CD Projekt RED and their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game.

Operating under Vegas rules, what happens in a sidequest, generally stays in a sidequest. Unless you’re CD Projekt RED that is, as the Polish developer is looking to make these missions more substantial in Cyberpunk 2077.

Audio cues that drive a project forward, and Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be any different. Cyberpunk 2077 is obviously leaning towards a more techno beat for its musical backdrop, but it’s not solely reliant on just the sound of synthesisers and assorted beeps to tell its not so subtle story.

Cyberpunk 2077 feels different. Sure, it looks fantastic, but there’s also a certain sub-text below the visuals that seem to hint at a story that knows exactly which direction it wants to take its narrative in. That’s not accidental, as developer CD Projekt Red isn’t shying away from spreading its own message through the tale.
