Driveclub was beautiful, sublime to experience and it deserved better before Sony parked it away in a random barn with nary a find word said, leaving it to be forgotten about in the years to come.

For a game that was billed as a connected experience, not having working servers for months after launch was a bit of a death knell, and the game never really managed to get the time in the limelight it deserved. Eventually, everything was patched up, the game was updated and the servers worked as intended. Unfortunately for the handful of players still clinging to its original promises, the servers will be shut off next year. The game, its VR mode and the bikes expansions will also be delisted in a few months.

I better pick up the phone, because I called it today! DriveClub is getting a two-wheeled expansion by the name of DriveClub Bikes. Available as an expansion or standalone game, it’ll be up on the PlayStation store later tonight.

Much, much better and actually quite superb now that it isn’t broken. But it’s still lacking something. And by something, I mean two-wheeled pocket rockets. Outside of the bare-bones riding experience found in MotoGP games, motorcycles are woefully underrepresented in racing games lately. But that might be changing soon.

Since last year, Driveclub has become a far better racing game. There’s been stacks of updates, new content and plenty of fine vehicles added to the digital garages of some two million players. And that’s just the start, as the game is shifting into second year now.
