Because I’m saddled with other commitments, I’ve yet to actually play Respawn’s Apex Legends. It’s an undeniable success, and my friends lists on nearly every platform, loaded as they are with Apex players, is testament to that success. The game quickly hit a million players after launch, and in the blink of an eye, that was sitting at 10 million. Now, says EA and Respawn boss Vince Zampella, the game has crossed the 25 million player threshold.

Apex Legends is the team-based battle royale to play right now. Then again, some people want to lone wolf their way across Apex Legends and that’s just fine. More power to you. Like an American Republican’s wettest dream, guns are pretty much everywhere in Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends. Every single firearm has a particular quirk to it, a style that benefits certain environments and showdowns when you find yourself needing to eject some hot lead from the barrel. That being said, being good with one weapon doesn’t guarantee success in Apex Legends.

If you build it, they will come. If you build it properly, release it out of nowhere and you make it free, then buddy you better prepare yourself for a blitzkrieg of interest. Respawn Entertainment took a hell of a gamble with Apex Legends, releasing a fully playable battle royale experience without any warning prior to some leaks from influencers that had made the trek over to try the game out ahead of time. Point is, is that Respawn has done well this week.

The decade-long EA partnership with Disney has, to date, resulted in very little. There are a few mobile games, and two Battlefront titles, but just about every intriguing game set in the Star Wars universe has been canned. It’s left many wondering if Disney might be fed up with how fruitless the partnership has ben, and if we might get somebody else – like Disney themselves - making Star Wars games in the near future. The answer, however, is a very firm no.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Anthem looks like a great 20-hour game, but it has an uphill battle on its hands if it wants to convince me to spend more time than that within its world. With the amount of hype, resources and development invested within Anthem, Bioware and EA need to make certain that this Big Mech with Cheese combo special is satisfying enough to keep players around not just for days, but months.

It would seem that nobody is having a good quarter this financial year. Just as Square Enix announced they were struggling to make a profit despite increased game sales, EA meanwhile is financially underperforming.
