It may have been a buffet year of endless hit games, but 2018 was also a year where disappointment was regularly served up on a plate. We’re not talking bad games here, but rather those games that failed to live up their own hype or even the most tempered of fan expectations. Whether they were unpolished, woefully lacking in features or simply just a chore to play, here’s a look at 2018’s biggest disappointments.

Extinction is the upcoming Netflix Original sci-fi action drama starring Michael Peña and Lizzy Caplan. A father has a recurring dream of losing his family, but his nightmare turns into reality when the planet is invaded by a force bent on destruction. Now, fighting for their lives, he comes to realize an unknown strength to keep them safe from harm.

Extinction is a fantastic idea buried in mediocrity. It’s one trick is stunning for a short while, but quickly runs out of steam as repetition, flimsy combat and a glib story cuts it down to size.

Iron Galaxy’s giant-slayer hits shelves on April 10, promising players a sandbox in which to whip themselves around tall buildings and towering ogres that all have a bone to pick with you. Is it any good? Well I can’t say just yet, but what I can do is at least show you the game on a streaming service for a while. Iron Galaxy's Ogre-slaying game Extinction becomes a little more interesting with each bit of information. There’s a new trailer for the game, which starts off with the increasingly important news that you’ll not find a single microtransaction in the game, which is refreshing in a time when games are stuffed with them.

Feel like slaying a giant? Well developers Iron Galaxy and Modus Games have your back for the tallest of tales, as their titan-killing game Extinction will be hitting screens on April 10 this year. The objective is simple enough: Humanity lives under the smelly heel of the humongous Ravenii, and it’s up to you to use speed and power to cut these brutes down to size.

Another year, another E3 done and dusted! Possibly having too many games yet again, E3 was still home to plenty of winners and gems to keep your feeds open for.
