Well, that was fun while it lasted. Earlier this week, GTA Online players managed to convince themselves that a sixth instalment in Rockstar’s premiere sandbox of crime was on the way. According to reports, players got their hands on an in-game pop-up that announced GTA 6 for 2019. Yeah, that ain’t happening, as it was the work of some savvy mods within GTA Online.

Rockstar Games have another version of their iconic franchise chapter on the way, albeit focused purely on the online shenanigans that kept Grand Theft Auto V alive and rolling for so long after launch.

If ever you needed a poster child for big budget gaming with a trio of As done right, then GTA V is the benchmark that all games wish to surpass. Only problem? It’s looking highly likely that GTA V’s position as a $6 billion highest selling form of entertainment will ever be toppled. Not even by GTA itself or even the old west in the form of Red Dead Redemption 2.
