This year gave us the Joker film we never knew we wanted. Something which may never have happened if Jared Leto had his way.

Some movies take many different cuts and edits to get right, leaving a trove of deleted and extra scenes on the cutting room. Scenes which director Todd Philips claims you won't be scene from his Joker film.

Weekend box office report 11 - 13 October 2019: Joker crosses $500 million, while the Will Smith-led Gemini Man can't beat The Addams Family. Meanwhile, Bong Joon Ho's Palme d'Or winner Parasite breaks limited-release records.

Before release, Joker was sold as a completely standalone, once-off effort. That was before the movie broke box office records and all the Oscar talk for the historically sequel-averse Joaquin Phoenix though.

Marvel has found a winning formula in light, upbeat, high-action movies. Not all comic book movies need to like that though and Edward Norton would've preferred a Hulk story a lot closer to The Dark Knight initially.
