This may be the most first-world complaint I’ve ever made, but there’s no denying it: There just aren’t enough hours in the day to experience everything that Xbox Game Pass has to offer. Team Green’s successful subscription service may have started out with an entirely okay library, but the current crop on offer is astonishing stuff especially if you’re looking to play catch-up with some of the biggest hits of this generation.

When you look at a sequel, the recipe for success is easy: More of the good stuff, please. That alone makes for a great foundation to build on, tweak and improve, but what if you’re after more? Those sequels which do go above and beyond aren’t rare in this day and cautious age, but real cream of the crop are the games which push their source media material to new heights not just mechanically but emotionally as well. These, are the best sequels of 2019.

Re Mind – the other tale that unfolded during the climax of Kingdom Hearts 3. Determined to rescue Kairi, Sora travels to the Keyblade Graveyard a short time before the final battle was to take place. Lacking a corporeal form, he traces the hearts of the seven guardians of light. Through experiencing their personal battles firsthand, Sora is about to discover truths that he has never before imagined.

If you were looking for nothing but JRPGs in the wee hours of the morning, then Square Enix did not disappoint. The penultimate show before Nintendo closes off the press conference later tonight, Square Enix’s intimate event may have been focused on one single genre for most of its running time but it also had a few surprises up its sleeve.

We’re just about a third of the way through the year, and it’s been a year that’s already given us some heavy hitting games. My own favourites of the year so far are Capcom’s glorious remake of Resident Evil 2 and the freshly released Mortal Kombat 11, there have been some outstanding games finding their way to your console and PC hard drives – like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and Kingdom Hearts III. It’s that third numbered sequel that’s the best-selling game of the year so far, at least in the US, according to NPD.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was an unforgettable experience and as a long-time fan, it was everything I could’ve hoped for. Terrible story pacing aside, this is a special game and a fitting end to an over decade-old saga.

For all the flack that Kingdom Hearts gets, it a series that knows what it is and unashamedly embraces its quirks and silliness. Sure, it has its fair share of melodrama but for Pete’s sake you’re a kid running around with Goofy and Donald Duck trying to save Disney themed worlds from evil monsters. It’s weird and it can be dumb…but hot damn do I love it.
