Seeing Microsoft’s Fable franchise resurrected by a developer known for creating one of the best racing games in recent memory? Hell, stranger things have happened. In a year where Microsoft truly does need to distinguish its Xbox brand with plenty of new exclusive titles, here’s one for the salt pile.

The Xbox One X is a niche device. It’s a machine for a certain market, while also requiring some faith from those people who splash cash down on it. That seems to be the running theme in reviews for the hardware-heavy console, as opinions on the actual tech is overwhelmingly positive so far.

Looking back on the series, I kind of think that Fable was largely…rubbish. Make no mistake, the world-building and characters within that particular universe were top-notch, but the rest of the actual experience.Ennnnhhhhh. I’d say that Fable 3 and Fable: The Journey represented the nadir of the series, a collection of games with lofty ideas that never materialised.

In the last quarter, Xbox gaming revenue increased 1% to $1.896 billion, largely thanks to Xbox software and services, which helped offset the 21% decrease in Xbox hardware revenue. The lower revenue is largely down to price decreases, and the impending Xbox One X.
