I’ve got many a fond memory of Age of Empires, a series of real-time strategy games from Microsoft that were pitch-perfect in their balance of exploration and conquest. While Age of Empires II was the highlight for me, I never quite got into its third instalment. It was a fine game, but something just felt…off. Maybe it was the dramatic shift to 3D visuals in an age where such graphics were still in their infancy in that genre, or maybe it was the odd resource-gathering system. Perhaps the fourth time is the charm then, as Microsoft unveiled Age of Empires IV last night.

Every game that is capable of getting an enhancement, will have it available for free as the onus is on the developers to decide just how they want to upgrade their titles when the Xbox One X launches this year. Here’s the full list of games that will be capable of having its good looks tuned up.

On PC that is, as the platform-exclusive game has managed to earn itself rave reviews and followings from across the globe in the few months since it launched. Microsoft’s Xbox One X is coming later this year, and it was coming with just one brand new launch exclusive – Crackdown 3. That game has, however, been delayed. Crackdown 3 has been pushed back from its original 7th November release until the northern hemisphere’s Spring in 2018.

Forza Motorsport 7 is looking to flex some 4K muscle this year by appealing to the fantasy lobes in your brain, with developer Turn 10 saying that the latest incarnation of the signature Xbox driving game that isn’t Project Gotham Racing (sniff) having over 700 collections of engines to choose from.
