2016's DOOM may have been a delightful single-player romp, but its multiplayer left fans wanting some far more brutal. DOOM Eternal’s Battlemode may be the answer to that bloodlust, as QuakeCon revealed a lot more on the mode that Bethesda wants to use to give the upcoming sequel a little of the ol’ live service flavour after launch.

Many years later, and what has changed in Gears 5and its new arcade mode multiplayer mode? Not much, but just enough.

Gears 5 debuts later this year, and with it comes a new multiplayer pursuit in the form of Arcade mode. The idea is simple: Two teams of five players pick their favourite character and race to see who can murder the other team first to the tune of 50 kills.

This year’s multiplayer hook in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare goes by the name of Gunfight, a 2v2 mode that focuses on duos as they take each other on in what developer Infinity Ward calls “multi-round cage matches”.

While Cybperunk 2077 will be a proper single-player game through and through, CD Projekt Red isn’t averse to adding some form of multiplayer to the game provided that it doesn’t interfere with work on their primary focus.

I can’t imagine there are too many people still playing on them, but the handful who are will be saddened to hear that Naughty Dog will be shutting down the servers for its PlayStation 3 games. That means the multiplayer bits of PlayStation 3 classics Uncharted 2 and 3 and The Last of Us will no longer work after the switch gets flicked on Tuesday, September 3, at 5 PM PT.

While Gears 5 did get a reveal at last year’s E3, Coalition has been mum on details since then, keeping fans in the dark regarding the story of the sequel and where new character Kait’s story will take her next.
