Last month, steam rolled out its Remote Play together feature in beta, allowing those without proximity to friends to play games together over the internet. It works, and it works well enough that Valve has yanked the feature out of beta and put it into the main Steam client.

As welcome as the presence of Overwatch 2, it’s a strange new take on Blizzard’s beloved hero-shooter experience. For starters, it’s pretty much the original Overwatch but with a few more bells, whistles and Genji in a hoodie which is just adorable. Many of its PvP modes, maps and features from the original game will be copied on over to the sequel, thus allowing for a crossplay between games in online matches, something which you can imagine was massively challenging for Blizzard to throw resources at.

Steam’s Remote Play Together launches in beta

Last week, we told you that Steam would soon be launching the beta for its new feature, Remote Play Together. As a reminder, it’s a new steam feature that uses remote play to allow for online multiplayer for games that don’t explicitly support playing online. Games that have couch adversarial or co-op modes can now be played over the internet. It’s a perfect tool for people (like me) who have no real life gamer friends and engage with people almost entirely over the internet.

DOOM Eternal wants to turn its bloody single-player into a memorable multiplayer social experience

DOOM had shades of Quake 3 Arena in its DNA, the servers did an adequate job of turning pings into regular missed shots and it was an optional extra that most people ignored. In this day and age, alright simply isn’t good enough though and that’s something that id Software wants to avoid with DOOM Eternal.

While CD Projekt Red have hinted in the past that they’d be open to the idea of taking their upcoming title into the online realm of PvP and other social interactions, that was just it. It was an idea, a thought that there was no real form commitment to. Until today that is, as the developer have officially announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive multiplayer content after launch and once the DLC has wrapped up.

Destiny 2 is planning a major PvP overhaul once New Light and Shadowkeep launches

The Destiny 2 multiplayer suite of PvP activity should be a highlight of the product that will create a foundation for the sequel once it goes free to play…right? Not exactly, because ever since it first launched in 2017, Destiny 2’s PvP has not been in a healthy shape. It’s not that it isn’t fun from time to time, but it seldom reaches the highs of Destiny 1’s amazing multiplayer. Time to change all that, as Bungie has some big plans for the future of its multiplayer mode.

Love it or hate it, but if Activision can sell an entire Titanic’s worth of Call of Duty every single year then they must be doing something right. While the campaign mode of this year’s Modern Warfare wants to shine a serious light on war, it may be at odds with the multiplayer component of the package which is looking to emphasise a number of new factors within its DNA.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is looking to distance itself from previous gung-ho campaigns that saw you spending a weekend as an action hero and focusing more on the idea of war being a terrible thing, the multiplayer side of the equation might also have a few new tricks up its sleeves.
