After proving that the back to basics approach of series 27 was no fluke, series 28 is doubling down on that theme thanks to the chemistry of its three main stars: Chris Harris, Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flinthoff. Two thirds of the team were present for the premiere of the series 28’s first episode, which features Flinthoff taking on a challenge that would give James Bond a license to ill.

We recently had a chance to chat to Top Gear;s Freddie Flintoff, fresh off of filming series 27 and deep in production on the next season. We had questions for him, he had answers for us on everything from the most beautiful filming spots in the world to Top Gear almost losing a host in a morbid but hilarious manner. Top Gear once again feels natural, less scripted and relaxed in its effort to show just how brilliant cars are and what they can still be in an ever-changing world. I’ve got a feeling that this looks like the start of a beautiful new friendship.
