2018 has been quite a year for movies. Not only did we once again see Hollywood studios make more money than ever, but it also saw the release of some exceptional movies that could easily become future classics. No year is perfect though and it just wouldn’t be memorable if there weren’t some turds amongst the diamonds on offer. So exactly what were the year’s highlights and lowlights?

Local weekend box office report 16 - 18 November 2018 - After more than a month of sagging box office figures, things are finally starting to look up again as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens at the top of the charts.

Local weekend box office report 9 - 11 November 2018: With overall box office revenue dropping 25% and only 2 out 5 new releases - The Girl in the Spider's Web and Overlord - actually even making it onto the charts, this was not a good weekend at the movies.

Local weekend box office report 2 - 4 November 2018: After a full month at the top of the charts, Venom's reign is finally over as Tiffany Hadish comedy Nobody's Fool steals its crown in a rather slow weekend at the box office.

Local weekend box office report 26 - 28 October 2018: Despite facing competition from five newcomers led by Jennifer Garner revenge thriller Peppermint, Venom managed to top the charts for the fourth week running.

There's a very noticeable divide in this week's new releases. The movies are either really, really good, or really, really bad. This is not the week for any inbetweens. 

Weekend box office report 28 - 30 September: Kevin Hart/Tiffany Hadish comedy Night School may not be getting good grades from reviewers, but audiences didn't care as it opened top of the charts this weekend past, followed closed by animated family film Smallfoot.

Weekend box office report 21 - 23 September: While A House With a Clock in its Walls exceeded studio expectations as it took the top spot, there was very little good news as other newcomers notched some of the worst openings of all time.
