On paper, the formula should be easy enough: You as the Predator, equipped with the best science fiction weaponry ever made and ripping spines out of torsos without ever being seen. That’s kind of the game we’re getting in Predator: Hunting Grounds, but the twist here is that you won’t just have a chance to play as the infamous stalker of Schwarzeneggers. You’ll be teaming up to take on the dread dreadlocked menace as a team of soldiers who have a job to do.
It takes a special kind of cocking up to create a Predator movie in the modern age that is largely regarded as the worst that the series has to offer. 2018’s The Predator looked brilliant on paper: Shane Black directing, plenty of practical effects and the film revolving around a crew of misfit soldiers as they find themselves roped into a fight with the cult classic alien hunter who has an agenda of its own this time. Instead what viewers got was absolute bollocks.
