One of the more bullish comments to come from GDC was Sony’s Hardware Marketing Director John Koller confidently stating that “we’ve captured the hardcore.” Speaking at GDC, Koller said “We’ve captured the hardcore. The install base we have now tells us that the hardcore’s purchased. We’re moving on now to continue to support them with a tremendous line-up of games, …

Sony’s actual big “Global Announcement”

By Gavin Mannion

Yesterday Sony made that huge “Global Announcement” that had been hyped up over the past couple of days and we didn’t post anything about it. Why? Well because it was incredibly boring and unimportant really. The big announcement was that the PS2’s price in America has been cut to $99, granted that’s better than an announcement about Pac-Man but really …

According to the rumours Sony are about to make a huge global announcement tomorrow about something… Obviously this instantly gets everyone into a frenzy about a possible PS3 price cut and that does seem to be the most obvious answer. There has already been leaked proof that the PS2’s price is being dropped to $99 in the US and the …

There have been tons of articles recently claiming that the PS3 is about to receive a price cut and then debating on how much they are going to cut. The general consensus is that we can expect a $100 price cut at or around E3 this year… However Sony has now come out and possibly killed that theory, in a …

Dear Sony, Can You Cut The PS3 Price Please? Love, Your Third-Party Publishers.

By Geoffrey Tim

The Playstation 3 is the most expensive console on the market at the moment. We know that, Sony knows that – and most importantly, the third-party devs and publishers know that. Well, those 3rd party fellas have had enough of it, and are pressuring Sony to reduce the price of its black, Blu-ray capable megalith. Janco Partners soothsayer Mike Hickey …

No More 360 Price Cuts – says Microsoft

By Nick De Bruyne

Anyone who has been paying any sort of attention to the gaming industry knows that Microsoft have taken a very aggressive approach this year by making some major slashes to the price of their Xbox 360 SKU's. In an interview with Videogamer.com, Stephen McGill, the head of Microsoft's gaming and entertainment department in the UK has said that he thinks that the Xbox 360 is "great value" and is at a "great price now". His explanation, after the jump. He says that Microsoft won't drop the price for "many many years in the future in the future I suspect" and also later goes on to say that: "It's great value. And I think the value not only comes from the price of the console but the content. With NXE launching and obviously that's free for everyone, and the portfolio. There isn't a better range of games and entertainment, basically fun, on any other platform, and we're incredibly affordable."" He is right though, the amount of console you are getting for the prices that they are now available is pretty remarkable and I really can't see that Microsoft would even be able to lower the prices any further, at least not for a couple of years. Sony on the other hand is holding tight with it's prices. With the line-up that the PS3 has got going for it as well as the strong brand recognition worldwide, I don't doubt that they will be selling consoles by the bucket-loads this Christmas either.

I didn’t expect it but I was hoping it would happen, however it seems that Sony has once again dashed the hopes and dreams of millions of gamers around the world. Or more precisely they have announced that they won’t be cutting the price of it’s black behemoth this holiday season. Patrick Seybold, Director of Corporate Communications for Sony America …

Local Xbox 360 Price Cut

By Gavin Mannion
October 6, 2008
in :  Gaming

Well blow me down it appears that I was utterly and completely wrong. I have been telling everyone not to expect a local price cut as we have already had a large one and are very competitively priced at the moment. However Microsoft seems to want to make it even easier to get into HD gaming and to be honest …
