If you build it, they will come. If you build it properly, release it out of nowhere and you make it free, then buddy you better prepare yourself for a blitzkrieg of interest. Respawn Entertainment took a hell of a gamble with Apex Legends, releasing a fully playable battle royale experience without any warning prior to some leaks from influencers that had made the trek over to try the game out ahead of time. Point is, is that Respawn has done well this week.

It’s not often that we get to go into a game without any real knowledge of what to actually expect, but here we are! Apex Legends arrived out of nowhere, and the initial results have been more than just promising: They’ve been bloody brilliant. On the surface, Apex Legends ticks all the right battle royale boxes. It has a map that shrinks every few minutes, plenty of weapons to pick up and it handles beautifully.

Titanfall ain’t dead yet, but where Titanfall 3 then? Still a ways away apparently, but maybe there might be some other action on the way in the form of the industry’s latest trend: The battle royale. Spread online by numerous video streamers and influencers because clearly video game bloggers and journalists are incapable of keeping a secret, and corroborated on by Kotaku’s always-reliable Jason Schrier, Apex Legends will see players ditch their Titans in favour of some of that sweet sweet chicken dinner.

According to a leak from a marketing presentation, Respawn Entertainment's Jedi Fallen Order is still on track for release late next year, and might feature some familiar characters from past TV series.

Battlefront II might have fallen short of expectations, but that's not stopping EA from touting their next big game using the Star Wars license. And Respawn is shaping up to deliver next fiscal year.

Just weeks after closing the doors at Visceral Games, EA has purchased Titanfall developers Respawn Entertainment for nearly half a billion dollars.
