Rocket League has been an Esports staple for several years now, offering plenty of bang for its buck with a modest entry price point. That price tag is about to get a whole lot lower. And by low, I mean, free.

If you called it, saying that the outrage around Rocket League’s exorbitant pricing seemed like a manufactured stunt that would lead to lowered pricing intended to make everybody happy, then give yourselves a high five and/or pat on the back. While it may not be quite as conspiratorial as that, Psyonix has announced that they’re reworking the game’s economy, by slashing the prices on its much maligned store.

Last week, Psyonix released the Blueprint update for Rocket League. It’s a notable update in that it’s the one that completely removes blind lootboxes, in favour of a much more transparent system.

Instead of randomised loot box offerings, Rocket League will instead switch over to Blueprints, digital plans that can be grabbed after every game. With a blueprint, there’ll be more transparency given to players as to what they’ll be capable of crafting, with unused loot crates being converted into “unrevealed blueprints” come December.
