The latest sales charts in from the UK have some interesting stories to tell. Call of Duty 5 is proving that the public doesn't really care who is developing the game and whether or not it is based in World War 2 again. The game appeals to many people and is accessible enough that a lot of consumers are all too happy to pick it up and give it a go. In the same vein, I am not too happy about the fact the Need for Speed: Undercover is sitting in second place. The fact that the game is still getting good sales is only going to let EA know more than ever that they can take huge shortcuts and make a really low quality game and still get away with massive sales due to a recognisable brand. What is really interesting is that Resistance 2, the supposedly almighty PS3 exclusive is only sitting at number 10. Why is that? Well, I was actually very interested to find out that Resistance 2 had only been on sale for a day when the chart was released, which means that the day one sales were probably looking pretty strong. It seems that the UK is also experiencing distribution issues so that may factor into the charts as well. It is interesting to see that so many other recent popular titles are not in the top 10 although it was interesting to see that even though it is so far down the line, Mario Kart Wii is sitting at a very respectable 4th place.

Mirror's Edge is the latest title to come out of DICE studios and has been hailed and nailed for being incredibly or even overly innovative. I spent quite a lot of time with the game over this last week and while the main storyline is pretty short, I found the experience to be quite breathtaking and the time trials a whole bunch of fun on their own. The game isn't perfect but it got me quite excited at the thought of how much more can be done with the concept in future. Problem is, I don't know if I am ever going to find out. As you can see from the title, the first week of sales for Mirror's Edge have been really bad. How bad, you may ask? Reports have come in showing that in it's first week in Europe, the game only managed to sell an embarrassingly low total of just on 30, 000 copies. Now, even if you aren't that clued in about game sales, it's not hard to figure out that when a game only sells 30,000 copies in the whole of Europe, it has failed miserably. With so many big titles sitting on the shelves at the moment, it's not that difficult to see why the sales are so low but it is still sitting significantly lower than what I had originally anticipated. If you are interested in the game, I highly recommend that you try the demo first. I found it to be an exhilarating experience but at the same time, I could see why many other gamers might find it frustrating and strange.

If my name was Peter Molyneux, I would be feeling pretty relaxed right now. Well, wouldn't you? There is an unspoken rule about videogaming that if your game sells a million copies, it can truly be considered successful. Fable 2 has proven itself more than worthy by crossing the one million mark in the first week of it's release. While some people get grumpy when I refer to VGchartz.com, their report for worldwide sales of the week ending on October 24th shows Fable 2 as the number seller with a total of 1,000,901 sales. I thought that Fable 2 was going to be very popular but I really didn't expect it to take off so incredibly well. Out of my personal experience I realised that I thought that most of the buyers were going to be the fans of Fable 2, completely forgetting that a lot of newer and more "casual" gamers might be interested by its approachability, which seems to also be the case. It's a pretty incredible start to Fable 2's sales, who knows how many will have sold by the end of the Christmas season.

Sony has recently released some new figures which make for some interesting reading. I have attempted to pick the most interesting ones below but I am sure the more financial minded people amongst us can spot the real important ones in their report here. Yesterday, we reported that Ubisoft was showing greater sales on the PS3 than the Xbox 360. Granted, the information was only for the United States. Today, According to the latest sales reports from Namco Bandai, Konami, Ubisoft and EA, the Playstation 3 is actually selling more titles than the Xbox 360 despite having a smaller install base. More after the jump. While the PS3 has been playing the catch up game to the Xbox 360 for quite some time since its later launch, it looks as if it's time is nigh. With Microsoft pushing the new 360 price drops as well as the releases of Fable 2 and the mighty Gears of War 2, one must wonder whether the PS3 will be able to keep up with LBP, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 but a significantly higher price still. The truth will only really come out after the Christmas rush is over and to be honest, I have no idea who is going to be out in front when all is said and done. We will keep our eye on the stats and see how Christmas plays out.
