In 2011, EA’s games started to disappear from Steam as EA decided to start selling its digital PC games directly, through its own digital storefront and launcher, Origin. Now years later, it’s starting to look like EA’s games might make their way back to Valve’s platform.

Steam’s Remote Play Together launches in beta

Last week, we told you that Steam would soon be launching the beta for its new feature, Remote Play Together. As a reminder, it’s a new steam feature that uses remote play to allow for online multiplayer for games that don’t explicitly support playing online. Games that have couch adversarial or co-op modes can now be played over the internet. It’s a perfect tool for people (like me) who have no real life gamer friends and engage with people almost entirely over the internet.

Local co-op and couch gaming are largely dead; a relic of the past because – certain party games excluded - it’s so seldom that people invite friends over to play video games. Instead, people now play video games with their friend over the internet. It’s a pity, not just because sitting with friends on a couch and playing video games together or against each other is awesome, but because there are so many games that don’t have online multiplayer support; games that would be better if played with others.
