I know that this is the third Injustice 2 trailer that I’ve posted this week, but hear me out: It’s a different kind of cool, unlike my horrific ice puns that I used for the Captain Cold spotlight videos. That’s because it dips into some proper comic book geekery this week, presenting a threat to Batman’s task force and Superman’s Regime that only a Justice League can fight back against: The Society.

DC Comics have always had a somewhat workable solution to decades of baggage: Reboots. Kicking off with Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1985, DC would flip the switch again with soft tweaks in Zero Hour: Crisis in Time in 1994, Infinite Crisis in 2005 and the larger ramifications of 2011’s Flashpoint Paradox that led to the birth of the New 52 universe. A universe which has now been rebooted once again, with very little fanfare or announcement in the latest issue of Action Comics.

As the kind of gamer who lives and breathes the fighting game genre, maybe even competitively, Injustice 2 might be a harder sell thanks to the Gear System in place. Developer NetherRealm has been hyping the game with a tagline that says that every battle will define your character, specifically with loot drops that can make your chosen vigilante that little bit stronger or faster. And now NetherRealm boss Ed Boon has weighed in on the debate with some thoughts of his own.
