There are only so many times that you can start an episode of The Flash with Barry Allen claiming to be the fastest man alive and then find himself immediately outclassed by a new threat on the horizon. If you can’t beat the scarlet speedster at his own game then, how do you defeat him? With smarts, as this week’s finale hinted at a more cerebral opponent.

Barry Allen may be the fastest man alive, but the only thing quicker than a speedster in red happens to be the list of directors who’ve dropped a chance to direct a solo film starring Ezra Miller Berry Barry Allen. Last year saw a high-profile names dropped from the finish line: Rick “Dope” Famuyiwa,with a list of potential replacements quickly popping up to take over.

Savitar has been unlike any other opponent faced so far however. Quicker than the Flash on even his best day, Savitar is a tank with the engine of a Speed-Force Ferrari. Unstoppable, he’s a constant reminder to Barry that he will make his life a living hell when he kills Iris West in a fixed moment in time. So who the hell is he? We’ve got several suspects below.

It’s hard to believe that DC’s Rebirth initiative is going to celebrate its first birthday next month. DC promised a soft reboot that would restore its heroes back to their tonal values, a move that so far has resulted in changes both big and small. The Flash will soon meet up with Jay Garrick as the two pursue Eobard Thawne and his memories of the universe before the Flashpoint Paradox occurred, as well as a certain darker knight. That’d be Thomas Wayne, who donned the cape and cowl of the Batman when the Flashpoint universe saw Bruce Wayne die that night in Crime Alley, a death that split the Waynes apart and fractured both of their minds. Two Batmen, who have a mystery to solve in the wake of DC Rebirth.

Injustice 2 may be setting itself up for the Batman V Superman clash that doesn’t end with the man of steel and the dark knight becoming best friends when they realise that their moms share a first name, but it’ll also have a few obscure characters joining the ranks for the upcoming metahuman brouhaha. One of those characters happens to Leonard Snart AKA Captain Cold, a persistent thorn in the side of the fastest man alive.
