By Darryn Bonthuys

Godfall hits the nail on the next-gen launch game head: All style, very little substance. Granted there’s some fun to be had but once the next-generation glitz wears off what’s left is a repetitive slog through levels that quickly get old.

Sandwiched between the launch of two next-gen consoles, and roughly 73 trillion games, the remake of cult classic cel-shaded shooter XIII probably flew under your radar. That’s not to say that the game didn’t have fans, but those people who decided to slap down some cash for nostalgia? They weren’t exactly happy with the end result, which saw a memorable tale of a Bourne-again fella with amnesia reclaiming his memory one bullet at a time, reduced to a stock standard shoot ‘em up.

If you played the Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War beta recently, you probably noticed that everyone treated the multiplayer as if the stages were coated in Vaseline. Sliding around in a manner that would embarrass even Vanquish, Cold War players exploited the action to get a leg up on the opposition.

Microsoft declares the Xbox Series X/S launch to be its biggest ever

For Microsoft, the launch of the new Xboxes has been a feather in its cap as Xboss Phil Spencer revealed on Twitter that “more Xbox consoles had been sold, in more countries, than ever before” this week. Spencer’s definitely right about the number of countries that got their hands on the chunky unit: A grand total of 37 including us here in sunny South Africa were launch day ready, which is a heck of a lot better than the paltry 13 regions that the Xbox One rolled out in back in ye older gaming days.
