Devil May Cry 5 was a balls-to-the-wall action game that pretty much defined 2019 for me, and in a few days it’ll be getting even ballsier with said wall when its special edition releases on next-gen consoles. All the S-rank bells and whistles are there on top of a game that pretty much looked like next-gen stuff when it first arrived: Ray tracing, 4K resolution, and a frame-rate mode that can run from glorious 60 to 120 frames per second. This game is literally why I’m buying a new TV.

Devil May Cry V Special Edition not only makes Dante’s infinitely cooler and swifter brother Vergil playable, but you’ll be able to slay demons at lightning-fast frame-rate.

Zip, zilch, nada. That’s what on the horizon for Devil May Cry 5. Which is both incredibly refreshing and sad. While Devil May Cry 3 and 4 would pop out a special edition after release, Capcom looks set to close the book on the magnificent fifth chapter of the series, which in itself could be the perfect swansong for the entire franchise.

There’s plenty of fantastic acting inside of Devil May Cry 5, a game that is already cementing itself as one of my personal highlights not only of the year but of this gaming generation.

Coming in April, Bloody Palace is a simple mode that has been in the Devil May Cry series for a while. A hundred floors of enemies, boss fights spread between them and a race to the top. Fall once, and your challenge is over. You’ll be able to field the power of Dante, V and Nero within the Bloody Palace, but according to dataminers, there might be a little something extra inside of the challenge mode.

With just a week to go, Devil May Cry 5 has one final trailer up its sleeve to set the mood. Although you might want to avoid this one, because of a huge spoiler that happens to be inside of it.

There’s a great story to be told across the Devil May Cry games, but the actual timeline doesn’t match up very coherently between games. One of the biggest plot holes in the chronology? The abysmal Devil May Cry 2, which kind of doesn’t make sense in the big picture of the franchise.

Without his trusty inheritance from his dad Vergil, Nero finds himself a little short-handed when Devil May Cry 5 kicks off (HAW!). While he still has enough fight in him to earn an S-Rank in ass-kicking with only one functioning hand, he’s going to need some more firepower to handle armies of demons.
