By stripping the traditional single-player campaign, Black Ops 4 goes all in on multiplayer modes, but fleshed out each of its three modes sufficiently to make players feel that they’ve gotten the value they expect …
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out today, and Activision and Treyarch did something courageous. Like Apple removing the headphone jack from its phones, Treyarch removed the single player campaign to focus on what they did best: deliver white-knuckled, hearth-thumping multiplayer. They’ve also doubled down on Zombies, and gone all in on Battle Royale, possibly giving players the best Battle Royale of the generation – or at the very least, the best militaristic Battle Royale. Sorry PUBG!
The game ditches the traditional single player element to deliver on three key pillars: The traditional multiplayer, a collection of Zombies campaigns, and of course, the new Battle Royale mode, Blackout. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out this week, bringing the anticipated sequel’s almost entirely multiplayer shenanigans to PC, PS4 and Xbox One. If ever there was a case for going digital, then Black Ops 4 is it.
Call of Duty is getting their hands dirty with their own Battle Royale mode called Blackout, and it's retaining the core shooting and ridiculoous weapons to create something that looks rather special.
“I want the PC community to know that this game was built for them,” says Beenox’s Philippe Troie. “This is a PC game that is being built with the PC in mind. From the controls, to the graphics options, to the gameplay, I want the PC community to feel that this is for them in every way.”
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 beta ended this weekend after its first run, exclusive to the PlayStation 4. It kicks off again this weekend though. Yes, it’ll be coming back to PS4, but also on Xbox One and PC.
