Cyberpunk 2077 is hopefully coming next year, bringing CD Projekt RED’s RPG experience not just to the future, but to the first person perspective too. I was a little apprehensive about the move to FPS, but it all makes sense after seeing the game in action. The Witcher games were great big, open-ended RPGs that let players spend hours and hours in a living digital world, by themselves. While cyberpunk will likely hit those same notes, it may end up having a bit of a multiplayer injection too.

Audio cues that drive a project forward, and Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be any different. Cyberpunk 2077 is obviously leaning towards a more techno beat for its musical backdrop, but it’s not solely reliant on just the sound of synthesisers and assorted beeps to tell its not so subtle story.

Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of the beloved Witcher books that become inspiration for the games and the impending Netflix series famously opted to take a quick cash payment instead of royalties when he gave CD Projekt RED licence to make those games. Now he wants more money.

Cyberpunk 2077 feels different. Sure, it looks fantastic, but there’s also a certain sub-text below the visuals that seem to hint at a story that knows exactly which direction it wants to take its narrative in. That’s not accidental, as developer CD Projekt Red isn’t shying away from spreading its own message through the tale.

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t going to have a quest structure that can be summed up as wham bam, thank you ma’am. Instead, it looks like every main mission is going to keep you busy for a while, as you play Night City’s biggest dogs against one another and fight to stay alive in a mad scramble to come out on top of some very dodgy deals.
