Darksiders may have lifted plenty of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda when it came to crafting a world that had been given an Apocalyptic Tombstone Piledriver, but when it came to combat the first two games were in a league of their own. War was a tank who could blitzkrieg through opponents, while Death was a more agile and surgical collection of mystical weapons when he faced entire armies on the battlefield. So what of Fury then? What makes this Horseman of the Apocalypse stand out?

Can the new tactical action direction of Darksiders 3 pull off a win for THQ and developer Gunfire Games? Hell if I know, but I’m still intrigued by what I see in the latest trailer for Darksiders 3, that shows off Fury and her ultimate skillset.

The best feature that Darksiders incorporated into its open-world design of hack ‘n slash exploration? Easily the puzzles that wouldn’t be out of place in any Legend of Zelda game. Puzzles were brilliant head-scratchers, moments where players could breathe and rest their thumbs while they let their grey matter do the heavy lifting, or in my case, scream at an inanimate object in sheer frustration.

Gunfire games is hard at work bringing the third Darksiders game to life. They’ve got a little more up their sleeves though, with the reveal of another game they’re working on. Remnant: From the Ashes is a new third-person co-operative survival-shooter that’s being published by Perfect World entertainment.

Players return to an apocalyptic planet Earth in Darksiders III, a hack-n-slash action-adventure where players take on the role of FURY in her quest to hunt down and dispose of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Charred Council calls upon FURY to battle from the heights of heaven down through the depths of hell in a quest to restore the balance between good and evil and prove that she is the fiercest of the FOUR HORSEMEN. FURY is a mage, her form evolving throughout gameplay and with it, her powers and weaponry.

I’d imagined that Darksiders 2 was the final hurrah for the series that ended with Death triumphant and the legacy of developer Vigil Games guaranteed as a brief but bright candle in the wind. Things changed in the years since then. THQ’s properties were gobbled up, THQ Nordic was formed and veterans from Vigil banded together to form Gunfire Games. A new studio that got to work on a sequel that fans were hungry for: Darksiders 3.

THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games have officially revealed Darksiders III, which will introduce players to Fury in 2018.
