DICE reveals Battlefield V final PC specs and launch maps

Battlefield V is out later this month, and should be one of the first of a handful of games to support Nvidia’s brand new ray-tracing capable video cards. Of course, you’d need to actually one of those cards, which have yet to really prove their worth. Of course, that sort of hardware isn’t necessary, and the required PC specs range from lowly hardware right up to the sort of stuff that PC dreams are made of. While EA and DICE released specs for the beta, they’ve been a little quiet on the sort of horsepower required for the retail release of the game. NOT ANYMORE!

What does the next generation hold in store for gamers? If current trends are to be believed, it’s a future where streaming games plays a large role. Microsoft and Sony are looking to move away from traditional physical media for games, instead offering their best titles as cloud-based products. That’s an idea which can’t be supported without some of the biggest players in the game joining in on that act, and it sounds like EA is keen to head to the cloud as well with whatever console hardware is on the way.

Remember at the start of the generation when Microsoft banged on and on about the cloud and how it was going to change video games as we knew them? We’ve seen very little of that materialise, but it could just be that Microsoft was being a little too forward thinking. In 2013, technology wasn’t sufficiently advanced to enable that sort of cloud-powered wizardry. In 2018, I’m still not sure it is – but that doesn’t mean that other companies aren’t doubling down on the cloud.

EA promises no pay-to-win in Battlefield V

After the colossal screw up of Battlefront II and its microtransactions, many fans were left wondering if the new World War II game would have a hint of that sort of progression, or even include loathed pay-to-win systems. In a post detailing the game’s economy, EA has tried its best to assuage those fears, saying that Battlefield V won’t include any purchasable items that might confer an “unfair gameplay advantage.”

Motive Studios founder Jade Raymond has left EA

Jade Raymond, formerly of Ubisoft and one of the creative forces behind Assassin’s Creed joined EA in 2015 as one of the co-founders of EA”s Motive Studio in Montreal. Motive was heavily involved in the since cancelled Amy Hennig-led narrative-driven Star Wars game that Visceral Games was working on before EA shut them down, cancelling the game. She's now left EA.
