The journey through Midgard is going to look double-fancy in 2021. The PS5 update that was detailed in a State of Play event earlier this year also revealed new content, starring everyone’s favourite Wutai Clan ninja Yuffie in her own solo episode. According to Square Enix, that episode has a name to tie in with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. It’s called “Episode INTERmission”. That’s it, that’s the headline I guess.

The conclusion to one of the most memorable video game stories of all time is getting a 4K remaster at long last.

Mark my words, this planet will be reduced to ashes on the cosmic winds once the sun goes supernova in a few billion years and Final Fantasy VII will still be an active gaming franchise. For now though, Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura sat down with Famitsu to reveal a few new details about the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade upgrade and the future of the series beyond its leap to next-gen consoles.

You’ll have to wait until the next Remake chapter to see just how much of a visual slobber-knocker Final Fantasy can be when the dials have been turned up to 11.

Final Fantasy VII Remake co-director Motomu Toriyama has announced that he’ll be popping up during the show, saying in a video that “There will be a special part of the concert where I'll make an appearance and talk about a few FF7R contents to be revealed only during this event, so please tune in!".

It’s not just a single game that has been revived, but an entire series built around it as Square Enix has filed trademarks for "Ever Crisis," and "The First Soldier," and the Shinra Electric Power Company logo.

Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t the retelling of a cult classic that you’re expecting it to be. It’s a lengthy and deliberately slow-paced walk down the Midgar memory lane that leisurely basks within the warm glow of nostalgia, but at the same time it’s an exhilarating and cinematic explosion of action that not only celebrates the impact of the game which rewrote the rulebook for an entire industry in 1997, but also everything else that followed in its genre-defining wake.
