You think of the one game that defines the gaming industry today, and for better or for worse, that game is Fortnite: Battle Royale. There’s nothing else like it on the market today, because this is an experience that is free, constantly updating and has entered the mainstream pop culture sphere on a level that few games could hope to achieve. Unless you’re Take Two Interactive that is.

Say what you like about Fortnite, but the Epic Games creation is still one of the biggest interactive experiences that you can find on the market today. Massive and constantly updated (to the detriment of burnt-out staff but that’s another story), Fortnite is now kicking off a ninth season of challenges. This week is the debut of these new tasks, as one of season nine’s challenges involves finding all seven Fortnite Sky Platforms.

With professional teams looking to make a name for themselves, the official Fortnite World Cup may just be the grandest stage of them all. A stage that is apparently rife with foul play, as hundreds of players have been caught red-handed in the cookie jar. According to Epic Games, a total of 1221 players were discovered to be cheating, with 206 competitors having their monetary rewards stripped from them within the first week of competition.

Fortnite Live was meant to be a celebration of all things related to the blockbuster game, but in the grand tradition of other festivals such as the infamous FyreCon or Rain Furrest, it crashed and burned spectacularly

Epic Games still has a winner on their hands as their sandbox last man standing game shows no signs of slowing down yet, thanks to regular events and challenges that adds a little something extra to the fanbase. One of this week’s big challenges for the evolving Battle Pass? Balloons!

This year, we wanted to find those ongoing games that always had something up their sleeves for the fans who kept coming back, the games that refuse to bask in previous triumphs and always offer something new to coincide with the change in seasons and fan attitudes. We think we found a couple of great nominees, as well as one heck of a winner.

While a whole range of Overwatch-themed NERF guns are still on the way, the manufacturer of high velocity foam dart shooters is also looking at another franchise that has taken the world by storm. A franchise whose battle royale antics will soon extend from the digital world to the physical realm of a backyard: Fortnite.

Epic has inked a deal with Warner Bros to publish and dsitribute a physical, retail version of Fortnite Battle Royale.
