For Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Ubisoft is dropping players onto the fictional island of Auroa, a sandbox checklist of various locations that are perfect for a squad of hairy black ops soldiers to engage in a bit of the ol’ Rambo LARP. You’ve got rainforests, snowy mountains and even a freakin’ volcano to navigate around. Pretty diverse terrain, which happens to be populated with killer attack drones that have zero empathy and ethical safeguards thanks to inventor Jace Skell not having to worry about pesky government regulations.
If you were perusing Ubisoft’s online store earlier this week, you might have spotted a game that probably wasn’t supposed to be revealed yet. Ghost Recon Breakpoint is the name of the title, and it’s apparently getting a release during the silly season. It’ll be out on October for the usual platform suspects, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Narco Road expansion in Ghost Recon: Wildlands will see players work their way through a new slice of the cartels: Their smuggling rings. Led by El Invisible (Spanish for The Invisible I think, much like El Nino is Mexican for “The Nino”), players will have to infiltrate their way up the crime food chain and eliminate three bosses.
The Wildlands do shine here when you stop to smell the coca leaves. Combined with the weather effects and a gameplay narrative that tasks you with actually exploring the country, Ghost Recon: Wildlands is one of the best environments I’ve ever stepped into. And I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of exploring it.
