The sequel to the spiritual-successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night will hopefully satiate those rabid fans desperate to explore more 2D castles.

Developer Art/Play announced a sequel to their Castlevania tribute last night, which will have more whips, action and epic scope to marvel at.

It’s hard for me to state just how excited I was for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The sprawling, explorative Castlevania games are some of my favourites, and the idea of a new game from Koji Igarashi tickled me. And then the game came out, and by all reports, it was pretty damned good! I grabbed the Switch version, because it seems a perfect platform this sort of game – and was slapped in the face with one of the most disappointing ports I’ve played. On the Switch, Bloodstained not only looks bad, it plays worse – with constant frame rate drops, weird input latency and frequent crashes.

There was a lot riding on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, more than I think many people realise. Kickstarted back in 2015 and being helmed by Koji Igarashi, creative director of one of the greatest games of all time (Ever heard of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night?) expectations for this game’s release…well, I can imagine how daunting it must have …

There’s a great big resurgence of Metroidvania games at the moment, with numerous titles that use the general concept or ideas around the concept.One of the most anticipated ones is now delayed.

Unsurprising to anyone but Konami, players are clamouring to get a new taste of Castlevanie-esque goodness with BloodstainedL Curse of the Moon. And many are heading to Switch to give it a go.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was everything that a Castlevania fan could ever want. Now, Igarashi’s new franchise is making a retro return this month in the form of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. Somebody pass me my VHS tapes of M-Net open-time recordings of Buffy The Vampire Slayer while I boot this trailer up.
