Mortal Kombat 11 is one of the best fighting games released in ages – and that’s coming from me, somebody who’s not much of a Mortal Kombat fan. Mortal Kombat 11 is a bloody and brilliant fighting game – which made its win in our own Game of the Year Awards a no brainer. If there’s one thing its missing though, it’s cross-platform play, which would allow for those on other platforms to slug it out against each across network divides.

Some call him the clown prince of crime, others the harlequin of hate. But to everyone else in Gotham City, there’s only one…Joker. Here’s the briefest look at the ace of knaves in action as he giggles his way into a kombat arena with a kharacter intro.

When you look at a sequel, the recipe for success is easy: More of the good stuff, please. That alone makes for a great foundation to build on, tweak and improve, but what if you’re after more? Those sequels which do go above and beyond aren’t rare in this day and cautious age, but real cream of the crop are the games which push their source media material to new heights not just mechanically but emotionally as well. These, are the best sequels of 2019.

Fisticuffs! Glorious competition, settled on a stage between two individuals who are ready to put everything on the line to see who’s the best. In many ways, fighting games are the essence of competition boiled to its purest form and unleashed with all manner of face-melting techniques that favour the skilled. 2019 may not have been bursting at the seams with fighting games, but what entries there were in this cult favourite genre were some of the best excuses ever to throw down a gauntlet and pick a fight online.
