Over the years DC Comics has adopted a Freddy Krueger-styled persona for the phobia physician, which reached its peak influence in 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight. For Injustice 2 though? This Scarecrow is more than ready to throw down with the big boys thanks to plenty of hallucinogenics and the appearance of a bulimic Bane. Bad trip man, bad trip.

I know that this is the third Injustice 2 trailer that I’ve posted this week, but hear me out: It’s a different kind of cool, unlike my horrific ice puns that I used for the Captain Cold spotlight videos. That’s because it dips into some proper comic book geekery this week, presenting a threat to Batman’s task force and Superman’s Regime that only a Justice League can fight back against: The Society.

Injustice 2 may be setting itself up for the Batman V Superman clash that doesn’t end with the man of steel and the dark knight becoming best friends when they realise that their moms share a first name, but it’ll also have a few obscure characters joining the ranks for the upcoming metahuman brouhaha. One of those characters happens to Leonard Snart AKA Captain Cold, a persistent thorn in the side of the fastest man alive.

You might be familiar with the current incarnation of Firestorm on Legends of Tomorrow, a hero whose only weakness is a limited special effects budget that keeps him from flaming on too often or doing anything too expensive with his powers. He’s also the next character in Injustice 2, having been teased by NetherRealm boss Ed Boon all the way back in December. Check him out in action.

As the kind of gamer who lives and breathes the fighting game genre, maybe even competitively, Injustice 2 might be a harder sell thanks to the Gear System in place. Developer NetherRealm has been hyping the game with a tagline that says that every battle will define your character, specifically with loot drops that can make your chosen vigilante that little bit stronger or faster. And now NetherRealm boss Ed Boon has weighed in on the debate with some thoughts of his own.

For a game set in a genre where balance is key, Injustice 2 also haso a potential headache on its hands for the eventual online space where the majority of the game will be played by fans. Fortunately, there's a number of checks and balances in place to ensure that this doesn't happen.
