Look, nobody was expecting the Switch to be as successful – both critically and commercially – as it has been. Just about everybody who owns a Switch – particularly if they were previously naysayers – thinks the machine is made of magic, and wants every game available on the little system that could.

Bayonetta is finally getting its third entry, and Nintendo is bringing it exclusively to the Switch. Along with the first two brillaint Platinum titles.

The year ahead has plenty of contenders for game of the year lined up. Here’s a look at every confirmed game so far, as well as those titles which are waiting on a date.

It’s true! It’s damn true! A new game based on My Hero Academia (or Boku No Academia accrding to Geoff who also rubbished any claims that he might actually be a fan of anime) has been announced. Straight out of the latest issue of Weekly Jump via Gematsu, you can expect to lock horns and throw down a Detroit Smash as all of your favourite characters from the hit manga and anime series soon, in My Hero Academia: One’s Justice.

Nintendo’s Switch is the gaming industry darling right now. After the dismal failure of the company’s last home console, the beleaguered Wii U, Nintendo needed to hit a home run with their hybrid handheld. A few design issues aside, they’ve knocked it out of the park – delivering a system that allows home-console quality games to be played from the couch, or on-the-go.

At the 35th annual Golden Joystick awards, all but four of the show’s accolades are voted for by the online masses. They’ve declared The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as the Ultimate game of the year, bestowing upon it a handful of other prizes too. It also nabbed best Audio and the Nintendo Game of the Year. It also won the Critic’s Choice award.

Hollow Knight is one of the best games of 2017, but it's going to remain on a single platform at least until 2018. Team Cherry have announced a delay for the Switch port, but with some good news on the horizon.

Nintendo’s Switch sure is a success. In its first year, Nintendo’s new hybrid system has eclipsed Nintendo’s internal sales estimates, along with pre-release analyst estimates. Perhaps overconfident, Nintendo is planning to really, really ramp up production next year.
