Developer People Can Fly wants you to have fun, but it also wants you to earn that fun. If you’re thinking about loading up some cheats in Outriders, you might want to think twice lest you find your game branded as the no-good shortcut-takin’ varmint that it is.

The first quarter of this year has been relatively dry on the big blockbuster side of gaming, but that drought is getting some much-needed AAA rainfall next week! People Can Fly’s very grim and somehow also very silly Outriders arrives on April 1, and as you’d expect, you’ll really want to have your internet connection ready to rock and possibly roll on launch day.

Xbox Game Pass, which has recently become a Bethesda buffet with all its Doom and Dishonored games being thrown onto the table, is about to get a whole lot tastier yet again.

Outriders has shaped up nicely over the years, and if its recent demo is any indicator of its final build, it’s a game that may not have much going for it in the originality department but it’s still a satisfying blast of polished action. One odd thing about its design though is just how reliant the game is on tiny cutscenes whenever you want to transition to a new area.

Developer People Can Fly have gone about cherry-picking what it wants from the last decade of games, resulting in a project that mixes the dirty aesthetics of Gears of War with the power fantasy of Destiny. And hot damn, does it at least feel great.
