Blah blah blah blah PUBG, blah blah blah blah popular, blah blah millions of players. That seems to be all you ever hear about the unbelievably popular Battle Royale game. The numbers back it up though.
Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds does not run particularly well on the Xbox One. It also doesn’t look particularly nice, but it’s managed to keep the same edge-of-your-seat tense gameplay. As a game in preview, it’s been subject to regular updates – but the latest one hasn’t left players happy.
Last week saw PUBG on Xbox One start the process of fixing its godawful control scheme, a boon for any player who was left completely boggled by the clunky design. This week? A new patch refines the controls a touch bit further, while also adding some s-s-s-s-s-s-s-stability to the island brouhaha.
Perhaps the very tip of that crapburg however, belongs to the actual button layout of PUBG on Xbox One. It’s overly-convoluted, with buttons often having multiple functions mapped to them that results in bloated gameplay. It seems some of that fat is being trimmed off in the latest PUBG update however, as a Type-B preset seeks to evolve the game further.
The nominees for this year's DICE Awards are in, and Sony’s Horizon: Zero Dawn leads the way with a staggering ten votes of awesomeness. It’s got some solid competition however: The latest Legend Of Zelda has six nods, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice earned five nominations and PUBG has four awards that it’s a contender for. The Steam marketplace will most likely be charging a premium soon enough then, as the latest fashion trends have just arrived in the PC test server for PUBG: Leather. In case you haven’t heard, I love leather. The Desperado collection features plenty of that cow hide to saunter around in, although getting your hands on a crate will most likely be one hell of a grind.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is certainly playable on Xbox One, but it’s a far cry from the game as it is on PC right now. Graphics and performance issues abound, the UI is a bit of a mess and the controls take more than a little getting used to. But! It’s a preview game, which means that it’s nowhere near being done, and will be getting a billion or so patches before it’s considered a retail game. The first of those is coming tomorrow.
