For most of us, our gaming journey began with the best console: The Sony PlayStation. It was cool, the advertising on a VHS tape made it mainstream and it had some of the best games ever that pushed the envelope in several genres. Now that’s a console that I’d love to see reimagined as a mini device.

While the E3 of today is a tightly-tuned beast of rehearsals and scripted moments, the E3s of the past were a bit more dynamic. That led to more than a few scenarios that were cringe-worthy to say the least. Events that went off script, crashed and burned. We’re a big fan of those awkward moments, so here’s a look back at E3’s best and worst blunders.

E3 is no stranger to that phenomenon of estimation, as every year happens to have a few traditions. There’s the usual stuff: Press conferences running late, XBoss Phil Spencer having the finest T-shirts in the land and South African journalists being utterly buggered after flying for literal days to reach Los Angeles. These days, having an acting stint in a video game isn’t the end of the world. Hell, it might actually be better for an actor, who seeks to try their hand at something new, fresh and exciting. It’s an idea which certainly worked for actor Christopher Judge, as he lent his impressive acting range and distinctive voice to Kratos in the latest God of War.

The original Kratos was death on two legs, a walking extinction event whose emotions fluctuated between angry, peeved, furious and rage. 2018’s Kratos is a man who is older, broken and tired. In other words, Sony’s resident deity-slayer comes off as more…human. Doing just that, was just one of the challenges that drew creative director Cory Barlog back to the franchise.
