While plenty of games are shown off every year, the industry still has some BIG titles reserved for the final half of our trip around the sun, culminating in a fourth quarter where the biggest players around go for broke as they attempt to grab some of that sweet silly season revenue.

The E3 2018 trailer for Spider-Man ended on a cliffhanger, as Spidey found himself outgunned by the Scorpion, Rhino, Electro, Mister Negative and the Vulture. Wait, that makes five. So who’s the sixth guy? Who’s the fella that Spider-Man couldn’t believe had orchestrated a massive jailbreak? None other than his greatest enemy, a man who had plagued Spidey for decades and had proven to be his deadliest foe...

Fantasy, action and straight-up weirdness was seen last week, leaving us tickled pink with games that we got to experience in Los Angeles. Here’s a look at the fifteen games, that have us excited for the future of the finest form of interactive entertainment that money can buy.

Sony decided to shake things up in terms of their E3 2018 press conference format, and it didn't really hit the right notes. Thankfully their stellar first-party showings did all the heavy lifting for them.

Most of what we’ve seen of Spider-Man to date has been set around what seems like largely linear action sequences interspersed with cinematics. That’s what we were treated to at the conference proper, with the introduction of five sixth of a particularly sinister bunch. The bits that we got to play, however, were all part of the open world, with a few missions and side activities scattered about for the intrepid webcrawler to tackle.

Sony is taking a more detailed approach this year in response, detailing the big five games that’ll be console tent pole titles for the months to come. I’m excited, I’m revving to go and I’m more than willing to endure a literal 24 hours worth of air travel just to get to E3 this year. Why? Because some of the finest games in the land will be on show there. Games that will define the greatest interactive medium ever made, push them in new directions ad just be a bloody hoot to play.
