Here’s the winner of the Crucial P1 NVME SSD!

It’s pretty simple. Adding an SSD to your desktop or laptop is the simplest and most effective way to breathe life into an older machine, or dramatically speed up even a newer. Because they don’t rely on platters and all of that physical movement, solid-state drives are unfathomably faster than regular old hard drives. And, when they’re NVMe drives, they’re …

It just so happens that on that tomorrow you’ll need to work on that spreadsheet, hope that your machine holds up just for a day and succumb to the fact that the …

Hey! Remember that cartridge patent that was dug up, ostensibly for use with the PlayStation 5. Later, people decided that it was probably a way to increase the SSD storage in the one consoles, given that they use semi-custom drives and won’t just allow you to stick a new drive in there to upgrade storage.

A couple of weeks ago, patents for cart-based technology hit the web and while it wasn’t proof that Sony was looking to go the Nintendo route, the technology proposed in that mock-up was fascinating stuff. This week’s latest patent once again points towards Sony making use of an SSD system with which to cut down on game loading screens that traditional SATA-based hard drives are plagued with, but it’s the 12 pin layout that suggests that Sony is going all in on solid state drive technology.

The current consoles – at least their upgraded, more powerful counterparts – have 4K as on of their great big, back of the box marketing bullet points. And it’s true! Both the PlayStation 4 Pro and the more powerful Xbox One can push out 4K graphics, natively and using fancy rendering techniques to lighten the load. While it’s easy enough to find games that are rendered in 4K (with concessions, of course), it’s a lot harder to find games that are both 4K and run at the fabled 60 frame per second.

A new PS5 patent reveals how the next PlayStation will shorten load times

Sony’s PlayStation 5 may just be the most millennial console ever, because in true fashion it looks like the biggest gun in its holster is the ability to give you games right now. Solid State Drives will drive the next generation forward, allowing for more complex and resource-heavy games to load quicker than the signal your butt sends to your butt when you realise that that fart you just let rip wasn’t gaseous in nature.
