THQ Nordic has been on a tear lately, gobbling up defunct video game properties like a fat kid left unattended in a candy store. 2018 has seen the publisher grab the rights to Alone in the Dark, TimeSplitters and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning to name just a few, but the company is looking for something more vroomy in its future.

Over on PC, a new patch is currently in testing and that should make Darksiders III’s somewhat broken gameplay more balanced and fair, amongst some of its many other issues that currently plagues the sequel.

By Darryn Bonthuys

Beneath the mountain of bugs, shoddy design and inconsistent performance, there’s a genuinely good adventure waiting to be experienced in Darksiders III. Unfortunately, its numerous problems are more than just annoying in nature. They’re quite simply…apocalyptic.

Darksiders may have lifted plenty of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda when it came to crafting a world that had been given an Apocalyptic Tombstone Piledriver, but when it came to combat the first two games were in a league of their own. War was a tank who could blitzkrieg through opponents, while Death was a more agile and surgical collection of mystical weapons when he faced entire armies on the battlefield. So what of Fury then? What makes this Horseman of the Apocalypse stand out?

Can the new tactical action direction of Darksiders 3 pull off a win for THQ and developer Gunfire Games? Hell if I know, but I’m still intrigued by what I see in the latest trailer for Darksiders 3, that shows off Fury and her ultimate skillset.

Cult horror game series Alone In The Dark is now a THQ Nordic property

By Darryn Bonthuys

The next acquisition on THQ Nordic’s plate? None other than Alone In The Dark, a video game series based on a highly successful Uwe Boll movie. I think, my memory is fuzzy on this one. Released all the way back in 1992, the original Alone In The Dark was a masterpiece of its time, utilising new 3D models in two dimensional environments to paint a picture of suspense and chills.

THQ Nordic has been on a tear lately, not only grabbing licenses but actually doing something with the properties and reviving them for new generations of gamers. The next game on the THQ Nordic list? None other than 38 Studios’ Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

New hope for Timesplitters as THQ Nordic picks up IP

By Geoffrey Tim
August 15, 2018

One of the great injustices in modern video gaming is the unfortunate demise of the Timesplitters franchise. Free Radical’s century-spanning shooter found its genesis on the Playstation 1, with sequels making their way to the original Xbox and Nintendo’s Gamecube. There were precisely zero Timesplitters games released in the last generation of consoles, though there was hope for a while. There's now more hope.
