Hot Toys is looking to immortalise the best cameo of the Marvel Comics legend, as they’re bringing Smilin’ Stan Lee back for one more slice of immortal merchandising.

The trailers did not convince me. I was one of those people. I said, “We do not need a Toy Story 4”. And so, I entered the theatre a little grumpy. 90 minutes later, I was on the verge of tears and cursing my cynicism.

Basically a red onesie with a hoodie on top of it, the Scarlet Spider was budget Spider-Man at its worst during the Clone Saga that everyone wishes that they could forget about. It just didn’t work on the printed page but fast forward a few years later and the costume kind of worked in video game form. Insomniac took the classic edgy idea, added some sweet new textures to it and there you had it: A Scarlet Spider costume which didn’t look like it made out of donated clothing. Hot Toys has taken that idea and run even wilder with it.

The Lancer from Gears of War is one of the best weapons in video games, an unholy combination of close quarters combat and marksmanship, a device so deadly that it cannot possibly exist in real life because it’s just too awesome. The toy version though? That’s another story.

Nope! Instead, what you see here is a sixth scale figure of “The Gunslinger” from LIM Toys. The fact that this toy just so happens to be pretty much identical to the protagonist of the best-selling Rockstar Games sequel to their popular western sandbox, is coincidental at best.

While Hot Toys does still have a few DC projects in the works, it’s the Movie Masterpiece line that has held my interest as of late. Their recent Neo from The Matrix was amazing, having a mini Johnny Depp in Jack Sparrow gear was piratastic and if I had more cash I’d probably buy all the Star Wars figures. Their next figure though? A fantastic replica of a great character from a terrible movie.
